14/01/24 legit theology: Christian-Deleuzian Worldsoul Pt. 2 – Musical Alchemy |
post by gur dimei
In continuation of yesterday’s post inspecting into the Chartrain concept of Worldsoul as a plane-of-complication, I will today continue elaborating on the Deleuzian understanding of the Worldsoul in Plato’s Timaeus. ...Accidental forms are susceptible to more and less: more or less charitable, but also more or less white, more or less warm. A degree of heat is a perfectly individuated warmth distinct from the substance or the subject that receives it. A degree of heat can enter into composition with a degree of whiteness, or with another degree of heat, to form a third unique individuality distinct from that of the subject. [...] An accidental form therefore has a “latitude” constituted by a certain number of composable individuations. A degree, an intensity, is an individual, a Haecceity that enters into composition with other degrees, other intensities, to form another individual. Here D&G attend to Alchemy as an “ars combinatoria” – the Vas Hermetis – alchemical vessel – as a plane-of-immanence, serving as home to transfigurations and coagulations, distillations and putrefactions – modulations of substance, interactions and physical “economies”. ...First he took one portion from the whole, after which he took one double that which he had taken, and a third portion one and a half times the second and triple the one taken first. These three elementary portions or degrees are 1, 2 and 3 – while 3 is 1.5×2 and 3×1, and 2 is 2×1, so creating a “harmonic” relation. The different “symphonies” of Soul, the intricacies of the universe, are different compositions of those elementary degrees (multiplied one by another) and their proportionate intervals. |
